Northern Israel's coastline near this ancient walled port city picks up the Mediterranean sea breeze well, with more open space than the busier urban spots further south.

Getting thereAbout 120km north of Ben Gurion Airport, a 1.5-hour drive via Route 2 and Route 4, or the Akko train station plus a short taxi. A car helps for gear logistics; parking in public lots near Argaman Beach, which offers the cleanest access south of the old city walls.
HazardsSubmerged rocky shelves and stone ruins line the old city walls to the north. Watch for strong NW side-shore current, and launch far enough downwind of stone structures or swimming crowds.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the NW sea breeze fills in with thermal compression along the northern coastline. Late spring/summer afternoons are the most reliable and spacious, away from swimmers.
