Getting there10 minutes northwest of Tarifa town center along the N-340, about 1.5 hours from Málaga Airport (AGP). A car is completely necessary; large paid municipal dirt lots next to the Tangana or Chiringuito Volare beach bars. The wide crescent bay near the iconic high sand dune is the primary access.
HazardsNotoriously overcrowded with hundreds of kites and windsurfers crossing the bay — flawless line handling and strict right-of-way etiquette matter. Levante here runs specifically side-offshore (not purely offshore, confirmed against multiple local sources) and can be gusty — genuinely the more forgiving of Tarifa's two main beaches for this reason, with several local schools noting a rescue card is less essential here than at Los Lances, though still worth having if you're not fully confident.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-October, when Levante (E) or Poniente (W) get accelerated by the Strait of Gibraltar's thermal funnel. Afternoon gives the most stable profiles and regular cross-onshore tracking on Poniente days.
