A marina town on the eastern shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, catching the same Levante and Poniente winds as Tarifa with a fraction of the crowd.
View live 5-day wind forecast →Good to know
Getting there25 minutes north of Gibraltar Airport or 1 hour west of Málaga Airport (AGP) via the AP-7. A car is necessary for gear; paid and free street parking near the Guadalquitón beach promenade or marina apartments. The beach north of the Guadiaro river mouth is the primary access.
HazardsThe Guadiaro River mouth creates localized undercurrents, and sandbars can create sudden shallow spots. Watch for wind transitions near the river mouth and heavy summer luxury yacht traffic entering the marina channel.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the Poniente (westerly) gets a thermal funnel boost along the Gibraltar strait coast — a genuinely good, sheltered Levante alternative for Tarifa-area riders, per local kite school guides. Builds post-midday for a steady cross-shore breeze until sunset.
