Getting thereAbout 10 minutes from Tenerife South Airport (TFS) via the TF-1. A car helps for gear; free parking in public dirt lots near Playa Sur or along the streets. The dedicated launch at the southern end of Playa del Médano is the mandatory access point for kiters.
HazardsA rocky reef ledge sits on the downwind side of the bay, with a real shorebreak at high tide. Strict local zoning separates swimmers, windsurfers, and kiters — you need to be a genuinely competent upwind rider here to avoid getting dragged into the rocks or the swimmer zone.
Best time of dayAfternoon, June-September, when trade winds get heavily accelerated by thermal compression against Montaña Roja (the red mountain). Track the high tide to avoid the heaviest shorebreak.
