Getting thereAbout 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City via I-15. A car is needed; parking at the paid Utah Lake State Park marina or the free dirt lots at Sandy Beach on the eastern shore. Sandy Beach gives the most direct, unobstructed sandy path for launching.
HazardsExceptionally shallow with a muddy, silty floor riddled with jagged freshwater shells β footwear is genuinely recommended. Toxic algal blooms regularly close water contact in late summer; check current advisories before heading out, and be ready for sudden, extreme mountain storm gusts that turn the shallow basin into tight, dangerous chop.
Best time of dayAfternoon through early evening, when southerly pre-frontal winds or standard summer thermals compress against the Wasatch range. After 2pm catches the daily wind build before it can turn turbulent near sunset.
