A wide, shallow bay on the Costa Brava that's hosted more kite schools and competitions than almost anywhere else in Spain, thanks to a Tramontana that can blow for days.

Getting thereAbout 50 minutes from Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) or 1.5 hours from Barcelona (BCN) via the AP-7. A car is necessary; large paid public lots operate right behind the dunes in summer. Access next to Camping La Ballena Alegre or Camping Las Dunas are the most popular staging zones.
HazardsFew physical obstructions on the wide sandy beach, but summer swimming zones are strictly buoyed — launch only within the designated, regulated kite channels or risk real police fines. The light cross-onshore thermal can turn into a genuinely strong, offshore Tramontane wind from the north with little warning.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-September, when reliable solar heating builds a steady 15-20kt thermal Garbí from the SE. Arrive before midday to beat camper crowds and set up as the sea breeze fills in.
