Getting thereThe literal easternmost tip of Oman, about 2.5 hours from Muscat via the Sur coastal highway. A car reaches the main resort areas, but a 4x4 is needed for the sandy tracks into the lagoon or open beach zones; free public parking is abundant. The large protected inside lagoon inlet is the primary flat-water access.
HazardsThe narrow channel inlet connecting the lagoon to the open ocean generates genuinely violent, rapid tidal current reversing hard with the tide. Stay strictly inside the shallow, flat-water lagoon pools, and respect strict bird and turtle sanctuary zoning.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when regional wind gets a strong thermal boost off the desert interior. Mid-afternoon gives the most reliable strength and cleanest tracking across the deep turquoise lagoon.
