Good to know

Getting thereRemote southwestern coast of Masirah Island, about a 5-hour itinerary from Muscat including the Shannah car ferry. A rugged high-clearance 4x4 is absolutely necessary for the soft sand and sharp track lines; free beach camping. There's only one primitive sand track access point.
HazardsAn isolated open-ocean setting with a heavy Indian Ocean shorebreak and genuinely dangerous rip currents. True beginners should avoid this entirely โ€” immediate deep-water drop-offs, sharp volcanic rock shelves flanking the beach, and no localized rescue craft or medical infrastructure at all.
Best time of dayAfternoon, June-August, when the peak summer Khareef monsoon delivers strong, dense cross-shore wind. Late in the day avoids the most extreme desert heat bouncing off the island's rocky interior ridges.
