Getting thereRemote southern coast of Masirah Island — a 4.5-hour drive from Muscat to Shannah, a 1-hour ferry, plus 40 minutes off-road south. A 4x4 is completely mandatory for the deep sand drifts; free beachside parking anywhere on the coastal flats. The main entry is a completely wild, unmanaged sandy bay.
HazardsA heavy dumping shorebreak plus sharp, submerged volcanic rocks close to shore that expose at mid-tide. Genuinely high-risk given extreme summer monsoon wind (often 30+kt) and no safety boat backup or cell service at all.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when summer monsoon wind aligns with intense local thermal suction from the dry mainland desert for a flawless cross-onshore blow — long, clean rolling swell for confident riders.
