Getting thereAlong the Muscat-Sur highway, about 2 hours from Muscat International Airport. A car reaches the gravel pull-offs near the ancient city ruins; free parking in public dirt slots overlooking the coast. The narrow pebble and shingle beach is the primary, if tight, launching zone.
HazardsLarge stones and pebbles drop off into deep water very quickly, generating a real shorebreak. Watch for genuinely gusty, turbulent wind close to shore from the massive mountain walls of the Hajar range directly downwind.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when clear summer days trigger a localized thermal funneling down the deep mountain wadis and valleys. Wait until early afternoon for the thermal to stabilize before rigging.
