Getting thereNear San Clemente del Tuyú, about 4 hours south of Buenos Aires via Provincial Route 11. A car is necessary for the unpaved sandy tracks into the municipal nature reserve — a small vehicle entry fee applies in summer. Park directly on the packed sand flats behind the main riding zone.
HazardsAn extreme tidal range creates real current where the Río de la Plata meets the Atlantic. Watch for vast mudflats exposed at low tide, and avoid the open-ocean side during strong offshore winds given the lack of rescue craft.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when regional wind gets reinforced by a strong thermal off the coastal dunes. Coordinate with a rising mid-tide for the best flat-water conditions in the inside shallow bay.
