Good to know

Getting thereSan Juan province, about 2.5 hours from San Juan Airport (UAQ) or 4 hours from Mendoza. A car is mandatory to reach remote Rodeo village; free dirt parking along the bluffs overlooking the reservoir. Tracks to Playa Mostaza are the standard staging area.
HazardsWind is genuinely violent โ€” regularly 30-40+kt screaming down the canyon. Poorly suited to true beginners: immediate deep water, cold alpine temperatures, sharp shale rocks on the shoreline, and no public rescue boats at all.
Best time of dayAfternoon โ€” this spot runs on an exceptional thermal engine that switches on like clockwork around 1pm and peaks by 4pm, driven by the temperature contrast between the desert valley floor and the snowy Andes.
