Getting thereFly into Rhodes (RHO) and drive 1.5-2 hours south along the coastal highway to the island's southern tip. A car is essential; a large free dirt lot sits on the sandy spit connecting the two sides โ one flatwater/offshore, one wave/onshore.
HazardsThe flatwater side is genuinely pure offshore wind that can blow a rider straight out to open sea โ register with a local kite center for rescue boat coverage rather than treat this as optional, since drifting out here without jet-ski backup is a real stranding risk. The launch spit gets congested with cars, camper vans, and windsurfers โ stay alert during setup.
Best time of dayMid-morning through late afternoon, June-September, when the Meltemi funnels between the two landmasses for a strong venturi effect. Non-tidal; early morning is clearest before day-tripper crowds arrive.
