Good to know

Getting therePsalidi or Kohilari are about 30-40 minutes from Kos International Airport (KGS). A rental car or scooter is necessary for gear; free parking on the dirt and gravel lots adjacent to local kite stations. Kohilari on the west coast or the stone-flecked shores of Psalidi are the main staging areas.
HazardsAt Psalidi, wind blows side-offshore over deep water โ€” glass-flat speed strips, but real risk of drifting into the busy commercial shipping channel toward Turkey. A rescue pass from local kite centers is genuinely worth having, and wear booties for the sharp pebbles along the launch line.
Best time of dayMidday to afternoon, when solar heating over the mountainous interior accelerates the Meltemi. Peaks after 1pm for reliable cross-shore conditions past the morning swimming crowds.
