Good to know

Getting thereRemote Masirah Island โ€” a 4.5-hour drive from Muscat International Airport (MCT), then a 1-hour public car ferry from Shannah port. A 4x4 is mandatory for the unpaved sandy tracks along the island's west coast; free off-road parking next to the lagoon edge. Wide flat sandbanks near Sur Masirah village offer direct entry.
HazardsAn extreme tidal range turns the riding zone into vast, dry mudflats at low tide. Stay well clear of the deep central channel, where the Indian Ocean monsoon generates real current โ€” this is a genuinely wild location with no emergency rescue teams at all.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-September, when the Southwest Monsoon hits with relentless force, thermally accelerated to exceed 30kt daily. Coordinate with a rising mid-tide for deep, flat water over the inside safety sandbars.
