Good to know

Getting thereRocha department, about 1.5 hours east of Punta del Este via Routes 9 and 15. A car is essential to move between bays; free street parking along Playa Los Botes or La Aguada promenade. The wide stretch at Playa La Aguada is the primary, clean launch.
HazardsFaces the open ocean with a real, heavy Atlantic shorebreak and strong lateral rip during high swell. Deep water starts quickly and there's no dedicated kite rescue service on the wave-facing beaches.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when prevailing E or NE trades get a thermal boost along the coast. Late afternoon gives the cleanest tracking and avoids the heaviest swimming crowds near town.
