Good to know

Getting thereSandpoint, Idaho, about 1.5 hours north of Spokane International Airport (GEG) via US-95. A car is needed; free parking at City Beach Park or nearby boat launch ramps. The sandy hook at City Beach gives the most direct, reliable rigging access.
HazardsDeep alpine water sits close to shore, with a pebble beach that transitions quickly into sudden drop-offs. Watch for freezing water outside mid-summer, real wind shadows from the surrounding Cabinet Mountains, and heavy summer tourist boat traffic.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when regional SW winds blow cleanly across the open lake with a slight thermal boost from the warm valley floor. Late spring and summer afternoons are most predictable, before evening mountain shadows fall.
