Getting thereWithin Oklahoma City, about 20 minutes north of Will Rogers World Airport (OKC). A car is preferred for gear; free public parking along the lake's eastern promenade roads. The gravel and grass spit known as 'Kite Point' on the east side is the primary, concentrated launch access.
HazardsThe perimeter is lined with steep, jagged concrete rip-rap walls — genuinely no room for downwind errors or launch mishaps. Flawless kite handling matters here to negotiate the tight, hard-packed entry and avoid the adjacent multi-lane concrete bike paths.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the Great Plains southerly low-level jet gets a thermal boost from daytime heating. Spring and early summer afternoons bring dense, consistent wind, making it a reliable urban training window.
