A long beach on Turkey's turquoise coast near Fethiye, filled by a gentler afternoon thermal than the Aegean's Meltemi — an easier introduction to Turkish kiting.

Getting thereAbout 45 minutes from Dalaman Airport (DLM), just 10 minutes north of Fethiye. A car or cheap local dolmuş works; free parking along the coastal road or at the kite school centers. The northern end of Koca Çalış Beach has the widest, most unobstructed launch.
HazardsDrops into deep water quickly, and the shoreline's coarse pebbles can damage gear during launch. A moderate shorebreak builds in the afternoon — no public rescue outside the private, school-operated jet ski zones.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-September, when the thermal engine drives a highly predictable cross-onshore breeze from around 1pm until sunset — steady enough that late afternoon is the real peak window.
