Getting thereMiami International (MIA), then about 25 minutes southeast across the Rickenbacker Causeway to Key Biscayne. A car is needed; parking is at the Crandon Park North Beach paid lot. The North Beach gate is the only legal launch point for windsports in the park.
HazardsThis spot has genuinely strict, legally-enforced local rules, confirmed directly against the Village of Key Biscayne's own kiteboarding ordinance: annual registration is mandatory, you must show a Level 3 IKO/PASA/IKA certification, and — importantly, beyond what's commonly mentioned — you're also required to carry a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy naming the Village as certificate holder. A city-issued streamer must be displayed while riding. This isn't a spot to show up at unprepared expecting to ride casually. Sea grass beds, palm trees, and heavy weekend crowds line the narrow sand launch path.
Best time of dayLate morning through afternoon, November-April, when NE or E winter fronts blow side-onshore across Biscayne Bay. High tide helps clear the shallow sandbanks and avoid grounding fins on the sea grass.
