Getting thereBlack Sea coast of Istanbul, about 45 minutes north of Istanbul New Airport (IST). A car is completely mandatory; entry requires a paid admission fee at the Burç Beach resort gate, which includes secure parking. The beach directly below the resort pavilions is the primary entry.
HazardsThis is a genuinely severe, well-documented public safety issue, not just a general warning: rip currents along Istanbul's Black Sea coast — Kilyos specifically named among the worst-affected beaches — account for roughly 70% of all drowning incidents on the city's coastline, with over 3,000 rescues in a single recent summer. If caught in one, the correct response is to swim parallel to the shore, never directly against the current toward the beach, which exhausts even strong swimmers. True beginners should avoid this beach entirely during strong northern wind events.
Best time of dayAfternoon, June-September, when regional N or NE frontal winds blow completely unobstructed across the open sea. Steady onshore or cross-onshore tracking, far better than the calm mornings.
