Getting thereLong Beach (LGB) or LAX, then to the Belmont Shore neighborhood. A car is recommended; paid parking at the 54th & Claremont lot or metered spaces along East Ocean Boulevard. Best access is the wide sandy beach in front of the local kite school containers.
HazardsAn outer breakwater blocks ocean swell, keeping water flat but also cutting off any natural wave escape route. Expect a high density of student kiters and concrete beach walls — local rules restrict kiting to the designated 'Kite Beach' zone specifically to avoid beachgoer collisions. Oil platforms and shipping lane markers sit on the horizon outside the bay.
Best time of day1-5pm, April-September, when the daily SoCal thermal sea breeze kicks in reliably. Side-onshore from the SW, building to 12-18kt as inland deserts heat up.
