Getting thereAbout 45 minutes from Almería Airport (LEI) or 2 hours from Málaga (AGP) via the A-7. A car is required; free parking in the large public lots next to Playa de Poniente or the marina breakwater. The main beach west of the harbor structure is the primary launch.
HazardsA real shorebreak and short, punchy chop show up when the Poniente blows strong. Not an easy spot for true beginners — deep water close to shore, fast lateral current, and concrete harbor walls downwind leave little room for error if you lose upwind ground.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the regional Poniente (westerly) gets heavily accelerated by the thermal funnel along the Alboran coast. Wind builds post-midday into solid bump-and-jump or wave conditions for confident riders.
