Getting thereAbout 30 minutes from Varadero Airport (VRA) or 2 hours east of Havana via the Vรญa Blanca. A car or hotel shuttle is preferred; street parking along Autopista Sur or outside major resorts. The beach near Calle 62 or dedicated resort water sports shacks is the primary access.
HazardsHeavily congested with resort guests, catamaran tours, and paddleboards in peak summer. Launching outside designated resort channels is genuinely restricted by local beach security, and open sea brings a real shorebreak during cold fronts.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when winter cold fronts or standard trades align with local thermal cycles for clean cross-onshore flow from the NE. Post-midday gives the most reliable strength away from morning crowds.
