Good to know

Getting thereIsolated Isle of Tiree โ€” a domestic flight from Glasgow Airport (GLA) or a 4-hour public car-ferry from Oban to Scarinish port. A car is completely mandatory around the island; free dirt parking directly behind the dunes at Maze Beach. The wide, wild bay gives an unobstructed launch space.
HazardsA wild, high-intensity Atlantic wave spot with a real, heavy shorebreak, genuine open-ocean rip current, and freezing water. True beginners should avoid this entirely โ€” deep water starts instantly, the area is extremely remote with no public rescue boat infrastructure, and cell service is highly limited.
Best time of dayAfternoon, April-October, when persistent Atlantic trades blow with real, relentless consistency. Mid-tide gives the best balance of clean wave faces and wide sandy staging, away from the reef shadow.
