Getting thereWest coast of Scotland, about 45 minutes southwest of Glasgow Airport (GLA) via the M77 and A77. A car is required; extensive free asphalt parking along the South Beach promenade. The wide sandy crescent bay gives completely unobstructed launch and rigging access.
HazardsA genuinely extreme tidal range exposes hidden rocky reef shelves and mudflats at dead low tide โ impossible for fins then. Time entry precisely for mid-to-high tide, wear thick booties for small stones, and expect cold water and strong lateral current year-round.
Best time of dayThree hours either side of high tide, for enough depth over the shallow coastal shelves. Afternoon sessions get a thermal boost on prevailing SW or W frontal wind over the open Firth of Clyde.
