Good to know

Getting thereOn the island of Rügen (not Fehmarn — a different, similarly-named location further west, worth being precise about), about 40 minutes from Stralsund via the Rügen Bridge and Route 96. A car is needed for gear; the paid day-use lot at the large local campsite. The grassy rigging lawn adjacent to the campsite beach is the primary access.
HazardsA massive standing-depth area stretches several hundred meters, but hydrofoils will instantly strike the shallow, muddy bottom close to shore. Watch for the tight launching area, hidden underwater stones, and stay well clear of drifting into the nearby navigation channel.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when W or NW frontal winds blow unobstructed across the Bodden. Summer afternoons are excellent as shallow water heats fast, adding a localized thermal boost that stabilizes the cross-onshore breeze.
