Getting thereNortheastern New Brunswick, about 1.5 hours from Bathurst Airport (ZBF) via Highway 11 and Route 113 across the Shippagan bridge. A car is essential for this remote sand spit; free dirt parking at the end of unpaved Gully Road. The wide beach inside the protected harbor inlet is the primary access.
HazardsThe Shippagan Gully generates genuinely violent tidal current that reverses direction hard with the tide — a real drifting hazard. Stay strictly inside the flat, shallow harbor-side pools, and never venture into the main navigation channel or open Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Best time of dayMid-to-high tide on a rising cycle, filling the inner sand lagoons with flat water and dampening the worst gully current. Late afternoon benefits from coastal thermal enhancement on the prevailing SW wind.
