Getting thereAlong Victoria, BC's southern waterfront, about 5 minutes from downtown. A car helps for gear, though it's easily reached by transit or bike; free street parking right along the Dallas Road seawall. The narrow pebble launch pocket beneath the concrete cliffs is the primary access.
HazardsA genuinely tight launch — slippery logs, jagged boulders, and hard pebble bordered by vertical concrete seawalls downwind. True beginners should avoid this entirely: deep water starts immediately, the Juan de Fuca Strait has real open-ocean current, and a launch error will send your kite straight into the busy seaside walking path or clifftops.
Best time of dayAfternoon, autumn through spring, when Pacific low-pressure systems blow cleanly cross-shore into the bay. Late afternoon is peak when SW wind aligns with local thermal drawing, before evening temperatures drop.
