Good to know

Getting thereDelta, BC, about 30 minutes south of Vancouver city center via Highway 99. A car is essential; free parking at the Centennial Park lot or 3rd Avenue beach access tracks. Centennial Beach gives the most direct, spacious sandy entry.
HazardsA genuinely extreme tidal range exposes mudflats over a kilometer out at low tide โ€” true beginners can get stranded or face a long, heavy walk back with gear. Watch for hidden sandbars, commercial crab pots, and stronger lateral current during spring tides.
Best time of dayHigh tide on a rising cycle, for enough depth over the sand shelves to avoid walking through deep mud. Afternoon sessions are best with prevailing SE or SW wind blowing cleanly into the bay.
