Getting thereLake Erie near Port Colborne, about 30 minutes west of Buffalo, New York, or 1.5 hours south of Toronto. A car is required, and entry needs a paid vehicle admission fee at the private Sherkston Shores resort gate, which includes secure parking. The wide beachfront inside the resort grounds is the main launch.
HazardsA historic submerged quarry wall and sharp concrete debris sit hidden just below the water line on the western section. Watch for real shorebreak during strong SW winds, and stay well clear of the marked resort swimmer zones — this is actively enforced by resort security, not just posted signage.
