Getting therePrince Edward County, about 2.5 hours east of Toronto via Highway 401. A car is needed, and a daily vehicle permit must be booked in advance during summer for Outlet Beach or Sandbanks beach lots. Outlet Beach gives the primary launch area.
HazardsA real freshwater shorebreak and genuinely fast-developing longshore current during SW swells. Respect the strict seasonal provincial park zoning separating kiters from public swimming areas, and avoid drifting into the shallow sand spit dune sanctuaries downwind.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when regional SW wind blows cleanly across open Lake Ontario. Summer afternoons are reliable but genuinely busy โ early weekday afternoons are best before peak campground traffic.
