Getting thereAtlántico department, about 20 minutes north of Barranquilla Airport (BAQ) via the coastal highway. A car is necessary for gear; free parking on the wide sandy dirt flats behind local beachfront restaurants. The open beach near the historic pier is the primary launch zone.
HazardsAn open sea setting with a moderate shorebreak and real longshore current dragging riders downwind. Watch for a few localized concrete breakwater ruins and old wooden fishing stakes close to shore — no organized public rescue boat services.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when equatorial trades get heavily accelerated by thermal suction from the dry interior. Mid-afternoon gives the most reliable strength and clean cross-onshore tracking across long, rolling wave lines.
