Good to know

Getting thereA highly remote sector of Inhambane Province, requiring a genuine 4-5 hour 4x4 drive from Maxixe or Inhambane Airport (INH) via deep sand tracks. High-clearance 4x4 is completely mandatory; free parking at remote eco-lodges or camp zones lining the lagoon mouth.
HazardsThe pristine mangrove lagoon has real tidal racing where incoming or outgoing tide generates powerful current through the narrow ocean inlet. Stay well inside the protected flat-water pools, protect against hidden mangrove roots, and know there are zero emergency medical or rescue teams nearby.
Best time of dayMid-to-high tide on a rising cycle, filling the sandbanks with clear, waist-deep water and counteracting the outgoing current. Afternoon sessions take advantage of trade winds thermally boosted across the coastal dunes.
