A remote archipelago in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, genuinely well-regarded among Canadian kiters for powerful wind, dramatic red cliffs, and flat shallow water in places โ a real east-coast destination, not just a passing mention.

Getting thereGulf of St. Lawrence โ a domestic flight to Havre-aux-Maisons Airport (YGR), or a 5-hour public car ferry from Souris, PEI. A car is completely mandatory for the remote lagoons; free dirt parking along the Route 199 causeway sand flats. Shallow sandbanks inside the Havre-aux-Maisons lagoon give direct entry.
HazardsKnee-to-waist-deep standing areas are common inside the lagoon, but low tide exposes sharp mudflats and sandbanks that can catch twin-tip fins. Follow local zoning to stay clear of commercial oyster farming structures, and watch for real tidal current near the narrow ocean inlet.
Best time of dayAll day, June-October, when persistent maritime wind blows cleanly across the archipelago. Afternoon sessions are especially steady as wind aligns with daily thermal draw over the warm inside lagoon.
