Getting thereMontréal-Trudeau (YUL), then 15 minutes south to Parc Saint-Louis in Lachine. A car is needed; free parking along the public park bays and side roads near the marina. The designated grassy clearing right on the Saint Lawrence River basin is the best launch point.
HazardsThis spot sits immediately upstream from the notorious, high-velocity Lachine Rapids — never drift eastward or lose gear downwind. Not for true beginners: deep water, rocky bottom, an active commercial shipping channel, and aggressive currents make getting back to shore genuinely hard. Stay well clear of pleasure craft and sailing club courses.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when SW wind blows cleanly along the river's long fetch for moderate-strong chop. Never launch if sudden summer thunderstorms are on the radar.
