Getting thereExtreme eastern tip of Crete, about 2 hours from Heraklion International Airport (HER) or 25 minutes from Sitia via Route 90. A car is completely mandatory for this remote coast; free parking under the tamarisk trees behind the pebble beach. The beach near the local windsurf club is the primary entry.
HazardsWind blows genuinely fierce, often over 30-35kt, transitioning to strictly offshore or side-offshore near shore. True beginners should avoid this entirely — immediate deep water, real wind shadows close to the tree line, and no public rescue boats at all.
Best time of dayMorning through early afternoon, when the northerly Meltemi gets heavily compressed by the local mountain valleys. Incredibly dense and consistent in peak summer — small kite or wing sizes matter.
