Getting thereCentral tourist strip, about 25 minutes from Banjul International Airport (BJL). A car or local green tourist taxi is preferred for gear; parking in the dirt behind the main beach bars. The beach in front of the local craft markets is the primary launch.
HazardsDrops off into deep water quickly, generating a real, heavy shorebreak during high tide cycles. Watch for strong open-ocean rip current, high summer swimmer concentrations, and the complete lack of dedicated public marine safety or kite rescue infrastructure.
Best time of dayAfternoon, November-May, when NW trades get thermally accelerated by Gambian landmass heat. Stabilizes after 2pm for a steady cross-onshore breeze that clears the nearshore surf line.
