Getting thereMargarita Island, about 10 minutes from Santiago MariΓ±o International Airport (PMV). A car isn't strictly necessary if staying beachfront, but helps for gear; parking in open street slots or hotel lots. The wide sandy strip in front of the main windsurf/kite schools is the primary launch.
HazardsWind is strictly offshore or side-offshore near the beach, which can drag tired riders or broken gear straight into the deep channel. Register with a local school for boat rescue monitoring if you're less experienced, and watch for the heavy concentration of windsurfers and anchored fishing boats in the bay.
Best time of dayLate morning through afternoon, when thermal heating over the dry terrain accelerates trades to peak velocity. Wait until around 11am for the wind to stabilize and fill in fully across the bay.
