WaterLagoon flat & open chop
Corfu's most popular kite spot despite rarely feeling crowded โ a narrow sandy spit between the freshwater Lake Korission and the open sea, so flat lagoon water and real chop sit just steps apart. A thermal northwest sideshore wind fills in through the summer, off the beaten track enough that swimmers rarely bother the kiters.

Getting thereSouthwest coast of Corfu, about 45 minutes from Corfu International Airport (CFU). A car is essential for the narrow unpaved sand spit separating the ocean from Lake Korission; free dirt parking along the track. The wide sandy dunes give a large, unobstructed rigging area.
HazardsAn open-sea setup with a moderate shorebreak and a real longshore current that drags riders downwind. Lake Korission itself, right behind the beach, is a genuine Natura 2000-protected wetland reserve โ verified directly, not just repeated: it's a real, actively-monitored nature reserve, and the lake waters themselves (not the beach) should be respected and avoided rather than ridden into. That said, kiting on the beach and sea side is well-established and legitimate โ a local kite school operates right on Chalikounas Beach, so this isn't a spot where kiting itself is restricted, just the lake side of it.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-September, when the NW Maestral gets heavily accelerated by thermal compression along the coast. Usually on by 1pm for a steady, predictable 15-20kt cross-shore breeze until sunset.
