Getting there120km south of Luanda, about 1.5 hours via the EN100 coastal highway. A car is completely necessary for this coastal resort district; free parking on the packed sand behind local beachfront surf lodges and restaurants. The wide crescent bay gives a massive, unobstructed launch and rigging zone.
HazardsAn open ocean setting with a real shorebreak at high tide and genuine longshore current dragging riders downwind. Genuinely forgiving given the wide sandy expanses, but watch for changing tides altering wave steepness, and fishing nets near local village boats.
Best time of dayAfternoon, September-May, when dominant SSW trades get thermally accelerated by the hot African interior. Usually on by 1pm for a steady cross-onshore blow that clears the nearshore surf line.
