On the Attica coast about 25km east of Athens, close enough to the airport for a session on a long layover — this stretch gets the steadiest, strongest northerly wind on the whole peninsula. Nissakia point splits the bay: exposed bump-and-jump upwind of the islet for experts, flatter water downwind for intermediates.

Getting thereJust 15 minutes east of Athens International Airport (ATH) via the Porto Rafti road. A car is needed; street parking along the lungomare disappears completely on summer weekends. The dedicated wind sports zone at the northern end of the bay is the primary, legal launch.
HazardsHeavy local crowds and a narrow launch bordered by concrete coastal defense walls and beachfront cafes. Avoid riding during strong northerly Meltemi storms — real shorebreak, low visibility, and turbulent wind pockets close to shore then.
Best time of dayMorning for the fierce NE Meltemi, or afternoon for a lighter, more stable thermal sea breeze from the south — the better choice for beginners given its predictable side-onshore direction and calmer water.
