Good to know

Getting thereAbout 45 minutes from both Barranquilla Airport (BAQ) and Cartagena Airport (CTG) via the Vía del Mar. A car is required; free parking in the dirt lots behind the main beachfront restaurants and kite schools. The wide sandy point at Salinas del Rey is the primary, clean launch and rigging area.
HazardsA real, relentless shorebreak and short, punchy chop when trades blow hard. Body-dragging past the breakers can be a genuine physical struggle here — watch for a sharp, shallow reef shelf slightly downwind of the main point.
Best time of dayMid-morning through late afternoon, December-April, when trades blow with real consistency. Stable all day long — plan around mid-tide to mitigate the steepest shorebreak angles near the point.
