Getting thereLake Reschen (Lago di Resia) sits at 1,498m in South Tyrol, Italy, near the Austrian and Swiss borders โ about 3 hours by car from Munich or 3.5 hours from Salzburg. Launching is restricted to a single designated club area at the village of Graun/Curon, with a grassy meadow for rigging.
HazardsThis is a strictly regulated spot, not an open free-for-all: launch and landing are only permitted in the marked kite zone, an international kitesurfing license and private liability insurance are required, and you must call the Italian emergency number (118) before entering the water so the rescue service knows kiters are out. Wetsuit and flotation vest are mandatory year-round โ water stays around 17ยฐC even in summer. Tube kites need a 5th-line restart system.
Best time of dayMay to October. The south wind is a highly predictable thermal, building between 11am-2pm and holding steady until late afternoon or early evening โ reinforced by a venturi (jet) effect from the surrounding mountains. North wind also works but is gustier.
