Good to know

Getting thereNearest airport is Madurai (IXM), about 170km away, roughly 3.5 hours by car or train across the Pamban Bridge. A car or pre-arranged local auto-rickshaw is needed for gear; free parking on dirt tracks near the surf academies. Swami's Bay (north side) or the flats near Kathadi (south side) are the main access points depending on monsoon season.
HazardsGenerally safe, wide sandy bottoms, but fishing nets, stakes, and small wooden boat traffic are common close to shore. Rescue options are limited outside the operating zones of local adventure sports academies — checking in with them first is genuinely worth doing, not just a formality.
Best time of dayMid-morning through afternoon, driven by the monsoon systems (SW May-September, NE October-January). Wind blows relentlessly through these months; afternoon thermal build adds extra stability.
