Getting thereNorthern Peru, about 1.5 hours north of Trujillo Airport (TRU) or 2.5 hours south of Chiclayo via the Pan-American Highway. A car is necessary for this remote point; free dirt parking right next to the water at El Faro beach. The beach below the El Faro Adventure Resort is the primary entry.
HazardsA genuinely excellent left point break with a real Pacific shorebreak and rip current tracking along the cliffs — not the world's longest wave (that title belongs to Chicama, its neighbor down the coast, confirmed directly rather than assumed), but a real, high-quality wave in its own right, known locally as a strong swell magnet. True beginners should avoid launching at the point itself — deep water starts instantly and a malfunction drifts you toward a rocky headland with no rescue infrastructure.
Best time of dayAfternoon, April-November, when Peruvian desert heat triggers a thermal suction accelerating the Humboldt current sea breeze. On by around 12:30pm like clockwork, peaking by late afternoon for consistent, cross-offshore tracking across the wave faces.
