A long, laid-back beach town on Ecuador's Santa Elena coast, better known for surf breaks than kiting specifically — lighter, more seasonal wind than Santa Marianita further north.

Getting thereJust north of Montañita, about 2.5 hours from Guayaquil International Airport (GYE) along the Ruta del Spondylus. A car is needed for gear; free parking along unpaved streets and sand flats behind the beach promenade. The expansive shoreline gives a massive, unobstructed launching zone.
HazardsAn open Pacific setting with a real shorebreak at high tide and genuine lateral undercurrent. Genuinely forgiving given the lack of rocks or reefs, but expect large rolling waves and heavy crowds of beginner surfers in the primary lineup.
Best time of dayAfternoon, May-December, when the Humboldt current aligns with daily inland thermal heating for a highly predictable cross-onshore sea breeze. Peaks 1-4pm for excellent bump-and-jump or wave-riding conditions.
