Getting thereFly into Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY), 30 minutes to Noosaville, or Brisbane (BNE), 1.5 hours. Reaching the North Shore launch needs the paid Noosa River car ferry from Tewantin, or a boat/SUP crossing from the spit. Public parking at the end of Claude Batten Drive gets congested.
HazardsHeavy boat traffic, commercial ferries, shifting sandbanks, and swimmers in the river mouth. Avoid the river mouth channel if inexperienced โ fierce tidal currents can rapidly separate you from your board, and solid upwind body-dragging skills matter to avoid being swept into boating lanes or onto rocks.
Best time of dayAfternoon during an incoming tide โ the incoming water opposes the dominant northerly/SE sea breeze for flat water over the sandbars, and also helps avoid the busiest weekend boat traffic.
