WaterFlat lagoon, choppy + waves on the reef

A shallow, coral-reef-protected lagoon about 16km north of Phan Rang in Ninh Thuan province โ€” flat, forgiving water inside the reef for beginners and freestyle, with genuine waves rolling in on the outside for wave riders. Several dedicated kite camps and an IKO-affiliated school operate right on the lagoon. Winter brings reliable northeast cross-onshore wind averaging 20-25kt with days up to 40kt; summer's south-southeast wind is lighter and less consistent, but the lagoon empties out and it's easy to have the place to yourself.

Good to know

Getting thereFly into Cam Ranh International (CXR) near Nha Trang and take a 1.5-hour taxi south along DT702 to the My Hoa lagoon in Phan Rang. A car isn't needed on-site since kite centers offer direct beachside accommodation; scooter rentals are available. Free parking inside the gated perimeters of private kite clubs like Sorrento or Phan Rang Kite Center.
HazardsThe entire lagoon floor is a sharp coral reef table. Wear thick reef booties and take real care, since at low tide the water depth drops to zero, exposing coral heads and making riding inside the lagoon impossible. Advanced riders should watch for heavy shorebreak and large rolling waves along the outer reef break about 1km out.
Best time of dayHigh tide is essential for adequate depth over the shallow coral reef table inside the lagoon. Wind blows all day, December-March, with the afternoon session giving the cleanest thermal angle.
