Good to know

Getting thereFly into Bern Airport (BRN) and drive 35 minutes west to the town of Murten, or take the regional train directly to Murten station. A car isn't strictly mandatory due to close rail access, but parking is available at the paid Pantschau public lakeside lot. The absolute best launch access point is the Pantschau beach lawn (Pantschauwiese) located right next to the Bise Noire surf center.
HazardsKitesurfing is legally prohibited on the beach at Salavaux, on the lake's southern shore, under the OROEM federal ordinance protecting waterbird and migratory bird reserves - making the Pantschau lawn the only legal launch zone on this side of the lake. The launch area is tight, bordered by large trees, and requires navigating around heavy summer pedestrian crowds and boat traffic lines. Beginners face offshore winds during a West wind trend, which will blow you away from the safety of the lawn.
Best time of dayThe best time is early to mid-afternoon when the Bise (North-East) or West winds stabilize cleanly across the lake surface. Arrive early during summer weekends to claim space on the small grass lawn before sunbathers and swimming crowds occupy the shoreline.
